One volunteer with an iPad runs the whole game — that’s the way most clubs score with CourtSide and it’s the way the app is built. When you can bring a second or third person along, two optional roles step in to take pressure off the stat taker and make the stats more accurate without changing how scoring works.
The primary volunteer with the iPad on the bench. Captures every shot (shooter and made/miss), every centre pass and phase 2 receive, and the location of every turnover and gain. The whole scoring flow works with this one person and nothing else. Works fully offline — the only way your shooting stats survive a venue Wi-Fi outage.
A second volunteer with their eyes on the game and no device in their hands. Calls out events to the stat taker — “miss, GA, top of the circle” — so the stat taker’s eyes never leave the iPad. Nothing gets missed while the primary is mid-tap, and accuracy goes up across the board. Anyone who knows netball can do this; no tech skill required. Coaches often pair a junior helper here so they pick up the stats vocabulary by listening.
A third volunteer on a second device running the Buddy app. The stat taker stays focused on where each event landed; the buddy fills in who turned the ball over and why — player attribution and turnover reason. Splits the cognitive load when scoring gets busy. The buddy app is shown on the right.
The shooting table tints green when you’re ahead in a quarter, amber when you’re level, red when you’re behind — so a coach on the bench knows in half a second where the game is turning.
